    Crooks and Stewart, Ardclinis

I wondered if Ardclinis Church had baptism records for Victoria Crookes and/or Henry Stewart and Rose Ann Stewart. Unfortunately those particular years were destroyed in a fire.

This is better and more up to date https://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/200389393-big-kiln-street-heritage-centre-formerly-lorne-street-free-gaelic-church-with-hall-boundary-walls-railings-gates-and-gatepiers-campbeltown#.WuSFG0xFyyI Baptisms here might not be on Scotland s people.

There is a booklet in Campbeltown library which lists burials in the cemetery. The librarian kindly checked for me, but was unable to find Henry and Victoria. Most likely there is a gap in the records.

I found a note that Henry Stewart's mother was Sarah Wright. Does that seem right?

Charles McLean of Campbeltown, Roseann Stewart's husband was the son of Charles Mclean a fisherman from 'Ireland'. His father was Duncan Maclean a carter born about 1785 somewhere in Ireland and married to Elizabeth McLauchlan. If anyone has come across this family and can help me to get...

Find a grave has a photo of Duncan Martin's headstone (s) which may be of interest. RoseAnn is there also.

I could be very wrong about this photo. Henry could be much older and surrounded by 3 generations?

    Crooks and Stewart, Ardclinis

That is a great family photo; thank you for sharing it. I made some assumptions to interpret it, but could be wrong. 1. Taken about 1900, so everyone is 30 years older than 1871 census 2.Boys look like Henry, girls look like Victoria. ( gives me too many girls) 3. The small ones are...

It would be so good to see a picture of Roseann; and maybe Charles Mclean as well... I cant quite find Helen listed here, but maybe you can http://www.ralstongenealogy.com/personform4.php Have you found the Stewarts of Campbeltown website? I don't seem able to get on it, but I'm sure if you...

    Crooks and Stewart, Ardclinis

I think always crooks for Victoria, but I have seen Crooks or Crookshanks for someone in lower Glenarm; Cruiks or Cruikshanks would be a variant. This was an age in which spelling may have depended on who was writing, as people may not have known how to spell their name. In Campbeltown there is...

By the way I would be very interested in anything you can add. Rose Ann Stewart married Charles Mclean, maltster. His family also came from Ireland, but I have no idea where. Would out mothers be third cousins or is it not that simple?

The inconsistencies make it so hard to trace people, but I think we are onto something here. A 1903 post office directory available online has Henry Stewart hallkeeper at the Templar's hall. He looks a nice, gentle man. the suit doesn't fit him very well? A year and a day out for the marriage...
